I sent another user a direct message and a prompt advised me that my email address would become available to anyone I DM'd.
So... I went to my account & changed my email address to a generic one I use for shopping online, spam etc. I just wouldn't want someone on this anonymous (depending on how one uses it) forum to follow my personal email to my facebook...
Is there a way to opt out of this email sharing feature?
If not, the generic email will do; just thought to inquire.
No one can see your DM's except the recipient. If you include your email in your message, the recipient will see it, but no one else. In a very rare occasion the Administrator might access your DM, but that would be done if there is a real problem with it.

Were you sending a DM (Direct Message) or were you sending an E-Mail? If you are sending them an e-mail, then your e-mail address will be disclosed in the e-mai when they receive it...
As Rich said, your e-mail address is not revealed when you use the Direct Message feature. You must have accidentally clicked on "Send this member an e-mail" link instead and, yes, that DOES reveal your address.
