Hi - Has anyone had their rep points lowered? I'm sure I was up to 277 points. Just curious

Wow, I really wouldnt know. They might deduct if you post something we're not supposed to post in these forums? Just guessing. Heck I dont even know what I have, never really pay attention or keep track.

Negative reps don't exist here anymore -- they were eliminated a couple years ago.

I don't think that's possible.

OMG. Can you just imagine if posters would be able to deduct rep points from each other????

I remember once having that happen to me. It seemed as though it was linked to some reps received from deleted posts, but it has been so long I really can't recall.

If a post you got a rep for gets deleted, your points remain. You just can't access the post anymore.

There is no way anyone can take your rep points away, except for admins and if we do that (as a punishment for abusing the system), you get notified about it.

I remember those days, since negative rep was still available the first few months after I joined. They weren't so bad.

I issued a few negative reps a week. Much in the way that rep today should be used to signal posts you like, it was nice to be able to have a subtle, non-confrontational way to convey that certain kinds of posts were not appreciated.

I wouldn't have wanted to be a moderator during them, though. I understand that adjusting rep points and consoling members over lost rep took an inordinate amount of mod time.

I remember those bad old days of negative reps.....I caught the tail end of it.

If I remember correctly.... Someone had posted a thread about a particular restaurant with a tree growing thru the floor and out the ceiling. I responded with a post about a different restaurant with a tree growing thru the floor and ceiling in a different state.....and got negative rep'd for being "Off Topic". It seemed unfair at the time......but it was only rep points....so I let it go. Looking back on it....it was really ridiculous and inconsequential. I decided at that time...not to venture out into new forums and threads...."where there may be giants".
