I just read the story and was going to post it but you beat me to it ;-) , very happy for this family and hope the other 50 waiting kids get to leave and start their new lives too.
So far it's just the six that were told they could leave. The final two were FINALLY sprung from their orphanages just yesterday after two weeks of the parents waiting.
It seems that those famillies who had court before January 1, and who were in the required 30-day waiting period, are slowly getting custody of their children. Communication between the various Russian offices and individuals involved in the various aspects of adoption has been poor and confusing, leading to slowdowns and delays, as no one wants to be blamed for "mistakes". Only a few families have cleared these hurdles so far, several of them families of children with special needs, as in the case of Polina, who clearly is an extremely bright child whose spina bifida would have condemned her to a very limited, probably institutionalized life in her birth country.
I do hope that things will speed up for the remaining American families who have passed court, and that they will soon be home with their children.
Yes, it appears as though so far most who passed court (not necessarily the 30 day wait) before the 1st are being allowed to have the children. Not all have, though.
