Currently live in Wooster. It's a nice town but real estate is far too expensive. I started looking around Akron and the home prices are so much more realistic. I know that Akron has a bad reputation for crime and I am not familiar enough with the city to know what areas are good/safe/quiet and what areas to avoid. I don't need to live in a sterile bubble but I also don't want to deal with violent crime/drugs/gangs/etc. I've found several listings for beautiful homes and also checked out the neighborhood on Streetview. There seem to be plenty of affordable homes in visibly nice neighborhoods. Am I missing something or am I just jaded by Wooster's crazy prices? What areas in Akron should I avoid? How are property taxes?

I looked at Akron before ultimately settling somewhere else but can recommend neighborhoods like Highland Square and Firestone Park as good options.
