Hi all,

first, I'm not a native speaker, so sorry for my mistakes.

We are currently started looking around for buying a house and came across the neighborhood of Wallhaven.
We fell in love with the nice cape cods on Beauparc/Castle/Kenilworth and liked the "european feeling" there (they actually have sidewalks, shopping center is near, coffee and cake, too...).

Can anybody tell us some facts about this area? Is it safe for kids, how are pre-schools/schools, what are the neighbors like?

Are there any other areas like Wallhaven in or around Akron (East Side).

Thank you all for your help!

Ciela

Lets just say that if I could afford the homes, the area on and around Castle Blvd. is where I would buy.
I live a few minutes from Castle - on North Portage Path - and I love it.
I have always felt safe in the Northwest sections of Akron.
I used to know a couple that lived on Harcourt (which is 2 streets down from Castle) and they loved it. Safe area. Altho they didnt have kids, I know people in the immediate area that send their kids to the surrounding schools and they are pleased with them (i.e. Case Elementary on Westvale).

The main grocery store in the neighbordhood (Acme) is only a few minutes away. There is also West Point Market, which is cool, but more high-end West Point Market - A Market Like No Other (http://www.westpointmarket.com/store/ - broken link)

Little eateries, coffee places, fast food, a make-your-own pottery place is all within walking distance. Highland Square is towards downtown on W.Market Street. And if you get tired of the immediate area, there is always Fairlawn 10 minutes down the road and is a shopping mecca.

*In all the years I have lived in the area, I have never encountered mean neighbors (this includes nearby homeowners and renters).

There are apartments on the other side of the street from West Point Market... had my CD player stolen out of my car there. My cousin used to live there & I stayed the night with her a lot. There were always fights out on the street & crazy stuff going on over there. So while there are beautiful houses where you are considering, there are a few crazies living right down the road! Ha ha. Just remember if you go to the stores by the big massive intersection by West Point Market, lock your doors!
