I know many of you are frequent fliers and know more about flying than I do. I am flying to Anchorage and then on to Kodiak this summer and have a couple of different lay-overs. Does Alaska airlines still allow standby and if so, is there a cost and do you just go up and ask? At one point I have 5 hours between a flight and another is 8 hours. My question may seem ignorant but I have only started flying recently.
Thanks

Some airlines charge for you to go on earlyer flight. But if you are nice and polite, they will often put you on a the next flight out for free if they have open seats. (Its actualy to there advantage) to get ride of you early if they have open seats, they may be able to sell the seat again.

If you have 8hr grab a cab and have him take you on a quick tour of town, stop in to a local place to eat. Use the time

http://www.alaskaair.com/content/tra...t-changes.aspx? $25 fee to go early But often the gate person will wave it,

My son and I fly from Seattle to Anchorage every 6 months. We have been able to catch an earlier stand-by flight a couple of times now. They were very nice, easy to work with and did not charge us anything. It seems though, that more flights to Anchorage are full and especially in the summer with the tourists and fisherman coming so you might be stuck on that long layover.

Good Luck!
