I had someone from Arizona call me yesterday from the grocery store. It was copper river reds for 7.99 or Kita salmon for 4.99 lb. I had to google kita salmon...another name for dog salmon. I told her to buy the reds.

Does anyone have any good fish smoking, cooking or canning recipes they want share?

When I was a kid, my mom would cut a six footstick in half, lay a salmon out on the stick, with smaller sticks on both sides to keep it held open, then put the other side of the stick on top and use baling wire to hold both sticks together. After having a camp fire burn down a bit, the salmon would be set across the fire at a 45 degree angle, it would cook, smoke and drain some of the oils off at the same time.

Was a great way to spend time out with the family and have a great picnic and the fish tasted great! The smoke helps drive off the bugs as well!

My dear hubby hasn't been home much to fish, but his efforts so far seem to consist of trying to beat them over the head with his casting technique then actually hooking any. :-) We have been in Alaska over a year now and haven't yet gotten out on the water. Boo hoo hoo on us.

You are in Homer and can't go fishing? They have a fishing hole on the spit where the salmon come into, gets a bit crazy there at times, but you can catch fish right off the beach if you want to!

Having a boat is nice, having friends with boats is even better! But I'd go down and wrangle your own fish if he isn't going to help right now!

Good Luck!
