Wedensday I went to get my nephew a new Phone at ACS, he wants a smart phone and where I got him a Job, ACS is the only phone system that works in that area.

Problem was, this Friday thru Sunday they are giving all their phones away when you sign up for a Contract. Tried to see if they would set him up with one on Wed. but they can't til today..

Because he works this weekend he can't get off so had to go ahead and buy a smart phone at the normal price.... Anyway, if any of you are looking to upgrade your phones, this weekend may be a good day to do so!

Don't know if AT&T has the same programs going on, but may be worth saving a few hundred for those that want to upgrade!

I saw that. Unfortunately, I still have a year left on my current contract. Slightly off-topic, but how does ACS compare with GCI for signal strength in Anchorage and surrounding area? I've heard conflicting reports.

I've been using ACS for a number of years. I have some slight signal loss when in the mountains between the peninsula and Anchorage, but other than that I like it. Not too fond of the roaming when in the states but my ACS phone does work well from Washington to New York.

Had ACS for years, switched to AT&T about four years ago to get the iPhone, works about the same in most of Alaska now days, in the States though, it works lightyears ahead. No roaming charges, and had services everywhere I went.

My nephew's phone that he got from ACS is a Motorola smart phone, screen is about 1/2" longer and works off the Android system I guess, but if he goes South, his roaming charges will be a bit higher. But seems to be a good phone!

Now he has full Internet, text, phone and apps!

Use to be just all cell services were bad, now coverage is better than 60%. Use to carry two phones, one ACS and the other AT&T, they are just about even in coverage now.
