All I know is, I have a friend whose only lights are from propane lights and she lives in the dark most of the winter or uses lanterns.

It really isn't the propane that freezes - it is the liquid to vapor part that starts having problems at around -44F... Obviously you need the liquid to turn to a vapor to use it. Also water condensates around the tank, lines, and regulator which also can cause useage issues. Seems to be a popular problem among winter time RVers.

FWIW, I looked it up - propane freezes at -190C or around -309F. I know you guys/gals talk about how cold it gets in AK - but I don't think it gets quite that cold.
That is nothing, get an all electric car to be green here, and when you go to warm it up to hit the road at -40 and it will be warm, but with dead batteries just about the time you are ready to leave...

Sometimes, being green isn't nearly as smart as using gasoline for transportation, hard to beat.

Nice looking kitchen! That is a great little setup.
Hey, for what it is worth, 1stimestar is a pretty sharp cookie and does pretty well with what she has and does some really neat stuff that most people would never have the chance to do!

Not really. It's about 4 blocks off the highway on my way home from work.

Hmm.. my cousin in Ester uses propane for stove/fridge and hasn't had a problem that I've heard of. I know we used propane stoves on the north slope as well, and have them here in Saint Marys. Some of the old houses with poor setups have had freezing issues, but I haven't yet.

Not really fond of battery only vehicles. Hybrids MAYBE, although they are not really green either, when you take into account the environmental cost to make them. Nt really crazy about ethanol either.

And why I am here is that I have a lot to learn. I find this site very interesting and intriguing.

With the advent of electric cars, hybrids, and gasoline powered cars that get better gas mileage, that'll mean less gas tax for the state's to collect and that means they'll have to find other ways to make up for it; like hiking registration fees, starting a mileage tax, and any other thing they can think of.

So saving money on gas will ultimately cost us more money elsewhere. Lose-lose proposition for the taxpayer -- again.

A government cannot give something without first having to take it from someone first. Waiting for a miles driven per year federal tax. There is a city in Oregon, IIRC, that is or was trying it out....
