Might as well start a thread on this, for those interested in the latest updates.

I enjoyed reading this article, and viewing the slideshow. Sounds like the first retail store will be opening soon in Skagway, of all places.

Skagway makes sense. Not only will they have the tourist trade from all those ships, they'll have the seasonal workers who don't have local connections to buy it otherwise as well as the ship crews. They're going to rake it in.

I'm wondering what sort of impact it'll have on tourism. If people travel to Napa for wine, is Alaska going to become a destination for pot? We'll see.

Curious on how the cannabis will get to Skagway. The lab where it has to be tested is in Anchorage. So at one point the cannabis will have to get on an airplane, boat or cross an international border to arrive in Skagway after testing or vis versa to get tested in Anchorage, depending on where it's grown.

I've read that the Feds don't plan to interfere with transportation within states that have legalized. So, probably Alaska Air Anchorage to Juneau, then commuter flight or ferry to Skagway.

I was reading somewhere that one of the labs is trying to add a mobile unit.

I tried to get my mobile testing lab approved by the state. Unfortunately, me in a VW camper van personally testing samples wasn't quite scientific enough to meet their requirements. Supposedly they want real scientists and real expensive equipment.

I doubt it. There are other places to get Pot. I doubt Alaska will be the pot hotspot.

Rumor has it that the first producing farm announced an opening price of $6,000 a pound for their product, then quickly retracted this after negative reactions.

It will be higher than the black market price though, whatever that may currently be.
