Mile wide and 200 mph. Hit a school and a hospital. Looked to be a major mess of things on the evening news.

It is very bad out in part of OK. A lot of people lost their life, including at least 20 kids.

Still want to see that Tornado?

I got to see some of these storms from above, flying over almost that very same spot on my way down to Tulsa for a meeting in 2010. We were at about 30,000 ft when I took these. The Pilot estimated the tops were still 5-7k feet above us:

EDIT: Looking at the folder these were taken on 5/10/2010 - essentially this exact same time 3 years ago!

I was down in Oklahoma for my daughters graduation from OU in May 2011. This was a pic from the westside of OKC looking back towards the southeast. Took it on May 21st. That was 3 days before an EF-5 hit Piedmont, OK. May is a bad tornado month down there. I still think I'd rather ride out an earthquake then a tornado.

I Did Clean Up Work In Joplin After The Tornado Went Through. Horrible Horribl Things.... We Were Cleaning Up MedicalWaste In Peoples Front Yards 10 Blocks From The Hospital. Here In Southern Illinois We See Tornados Quite Often As Well But Not The Monsters That Are Often Seen In OK And KS.

Rance... it is the most spell binding site when you finally do see one touch down until the panic sets in and you have no place to hide... the one I saw changed directions suddenly and saved the decision of me laying flat into a deep ditch full of mud.. you would probably like the storm chaser trip... a few different choices when I googled it... watching the news and seeing what the OK one did... it brought tears to my eyes... donations and I truly hope no one really has to face what they did in OK head on. Have a great evening everyone.

I went ahead and booked my flight. Leaving Friday night for a week to go help in Oklahoma. A friend of mine pastors a Baptist church 2 miles east of Moore. He said they'll need help for months. It's amazing to see how all the local churches down there jumped right in and started helping. They don't wait for FEMA.
