Down in the Automtive forum, somebody has found a website that claims Alaska has a $10,000 fine for texting while driving. I'm calling BS on it, until I find an independent reliable source that confirms it.

Anybody in Alaska know anything about this article that was released early this morning?

Stay alive...don't text and drive!

Which I don't. So I've never been stopped and ticketed for it. So I don't know how true the claim is.

Doesn't matter; if it's my kid or other loved one you kill because you're too goddamned dumb to to refrain from texting and driving, you won't be needing that 10K anyway.

$10,000 is the max penalty......unless you kill someone while doing it. Then it's $250,000 and up to 20 years!

Here in Toronto there was a TV news article the other night, as part of a Police blitz story on "distracted driving " . They mentioned that Alaska has the "toughest law in North America, on this problem ".

The Province of Ontario intends to amend the Highway Traffic Act here, to make it a "six points " demerit conviction on a Ontario driver's record, after being found guilty in court. That would result in a huge increase in their insurance premiums, for the next three years, in addition to the actual court fine.

On first conviction they should lose their license for 10 days and be forced to use a flip phone with no texting features for 1 year.

If I had the power to change the laws here in Ontario........I'd seize the dam phone, and have it destroyed after the trial and conviction. To me that is direct action on the problem.
