We seem to have 1 every year or two. Most are just like the one on Tuesday, you don't notice it. Over the past 20 years, I've felt about 4 of them and usually read about the others the next day.

Alaska has thousands of quakes per year, but most aren't felt.

I checked the earthquake site yesterday and saw there were a couple down southeast way. How cool is that?

There are much bigger ones in other parts of the state. I'm going to have to remember to build my storage shelves for my canned (glass jars) food so the jars can't come out, besides other things. I saw some film footage once of an earthquake that hit the Fairbanks area, maybe about 5 years ago (?), quite impressive what they can do. Vehicles bouncing around like balls, etc. I think this stuff is fascinating to study, even though science is still not complete on it, but I wouldn't want to be in a big city during one! The less overhead that can fall on you the better. And Anchorage would be a bad place to be if another one like the Good Friday quake hit...even if it wasn't so built up you'd still have the unstable ground...

Alaska gets more than a thousand quakes per month. The vast majority are too small to be felt. The
Alaska Earthquake Information Center shows 122 of the quakes in Alaska between July 12th and July 15th. The largest of which was only a magnitude 3.65, which can barely be felt if you are standing right on top of the epicenter.
Any quake under a magnitude of 5.0 isn't going to do much damage, if any at all. It is when they get to be a magnitude of 5.0 or above that they become a concern. Another useful resource on Alaskan earthquakes is the
West Coast & Alaska Tsunami Warning Center (http://wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov/events/eventmap.php - broken link).
Earthquakes are a part of life in Alaska. Anyone who intends on living in Alaska had better get used to them.

well I'm not sure that is going to happen. And I intend to live here awhile. I grew up on the gulf coast and experienced hurricanes every year but never got used to that either.
