Anchorage has some high stats, too (both stranger and acquaintance assaults), though, so it's misleading. Not as high as many villages, but much higher than national averages.

This is interesting:

http://www.adn.com/article/20141112/...high-rape-rate

I will say that one of the things I loved about living in Alaska was that I felt safe as a woman, but that was probably because of my reputation for being mean as a snake.

I guess we should stop telling people that stranger rape is rare in AK. I keep forgetting how much things have changed in just the last decade.

I think it's gross to use the "because of the villages" line. I guess a high rape rate doesn't count to some people if it happens to Natives.

And, as noted above, it's not even remotely true.

Well i am not super gullible any more but neither am i rough and tough no matter how much i wish i was. Thank you all. I think for my daughters sake as well as myself and my mother that we are going to relocate to Montana or Wyoming. We will just have to put visiting Alaska on the bucket list/enjoy it from afar. I am not going to risk my daughter's well being. I realize it could happen anywhere but it appears to be more of an "acceptable mindset" (or like breeds like?) in some states/areas.

Bless you all! (Well, accept for the moron who posted ) I will continue to enjoy this forum however.
