Only 75°? I hate the heat and anything over 65° is too hot for me. I'm moving to Alaska.

I think a better question would have been how do the men deal with dating and marriage when the ratio of men to women is very high.

Just curious -- where did you get that information? In the more populated parts of the state, the ratio is pretty much the same. And don't forget that it's somewhat skewed by the large military presence.

According to this: Alaska QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau 47.6% of the population is female. So it's almost 50/50.

Not everyone is into an endless summer and relentlessly bright sunshiny days, every...single....day, the so-called 'paradise weather'..........borrrrring!! All climates can take some getting used to and even the imagined Best still leaves room for complaints, lol.

Growing up almost in Canada I definitely understand the upside of cold weather and long winters, I miss the bracing fresh air, being warmed by a roaring fire after skiing all day, seeing the critter tracks in the snow every morning, etc, etc.

When the jet stream blasts mainland Alaska (Anchorage, Fairbanks), it's out of the southwest and brings unusually warm weather in winter. Oftentimes freezing rain, slush, and general grossness. When it's aimed at southeast, which it often is, it'll spin up small weather systems to the coastal communities like Valdez and Seward, but leave the interior mostly dry and fairly cold. During these times, we often have cold east winds in Delta, but Fairbanks is usually calm, 100 miles away. When the jet stream is aimed at Seattle or California is when we get the deep high pressure and brutal cold of mid-winter. In Fairbanks, this is calm weather, but it often means bitterly cold north winds along the coast. Strong north winds are uncommon in Fairbanks.

This is for the interior of Alaska, including Fairbanks:
National Weather Service Watch Warning Advisory Summary

TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN ABOVE NORMAL THROUGH THE WEEKEND...BUT A
SIGNIFICANT COOL DOWN IS ON THE WAY FOR EARLY NEXT WEEK FOR THE
EASTERN HALF OF NORTHERN ALASKA AND SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED
IN THE EASTERN BROOKS RANGE SUNDAY.

A STRONG COLD FRONT NEAR THE NORTH POLE SATURDAY WILL MOVE SOUTH
SUNDAY AND MONDAY OVER THE NORTHEAST HALF OF THE STATE BRINGING
MUCH COOLER CONDITIONS TO THE INTERIOR. AREAS NORTH OF THE TANANA
RIVER AND EAST OF TANANA WILL SEE HIGHS FALL TO THE 50S TO MID 60S
AND OVERNIGHT LOWS MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY FALL TO THE MID 20S TO
LOWER 40S. THE COLDEST AREAS WILL BE NORTH OF THE YUKON
RIVER...BUT TRADITIONALLY COLD SPOTS AS FAR SOUTH AS THE TANANA
RIVER MAY SEE TEMPERATURES FALL TO AROUND FREEZING FOR A SHORT
TIME TUESDAY MORNING AS WINDS DIMINISH AND SKIES CLEAR.
TRADITIONAL COLD SPOTS IN AND NEAR FAIRBANKS SUCH AS NORTH

ACCUMULATING SNOW IS EXPECTED OVER THE EASTERN BROOKS RANGE
SUNDAY. THE HEAVIEST SNOW IS EXPECTED TO FALL TO THE EAST OF
ATIGUN PASS AT THIS TIME...HOWEVER A SMALL CHANGE IN THE TRACK OF
THE STORM TO THE WEST COULD RESULT IN SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW
FALLING OVER ATIGUN PASS ON THE DALTON HIGHWAY SUNDAY. THOSE WITH
TRAVEL PLANS TO THE EASTERN BROOKS RANGE SUNDAY SHOULD CONTINUE
TO MONITOR FOR ADDITIONAL STATEMENTS ON THIS DEVELOPING WINTER
WEATHER SYSTEM.
