I live in South Ga., We have plenty of bugs. Are the bugs as bad as we have
read? We are interested in relocating to Kenai- Soldotna area. My wife was hoping to escape the multitude of bugs that we have here. Any pictures of the Kenai- Soldotna area out there that are not chamber of commerece pics?
thanks alot.

I've made a collection of some Kenai Peninsula pictures at http://tinyurl.com/qwyt3 (broken link) if you want to check it out. Not really any pic's of the towns...but most of them were taken near or around the local towns. Mostly scenic...

Bugs? What bugs?

There are hardly any up here. There is a bad mosquito season, especially if you're near a lake or river, but other than that you'll hardly notice a thing. No snakes and only a couple of poisonous spiders, which I have never once seen. Other than that, if you keep a clean house you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks- the info helps alot. I was pretty sure that South Ga. was the only place with year round gnats and mosquitos. Thanks for the pics. as well. We cant wait to see it in person. Still looking for employment though. Submitted resume for hse position with Tesoro, and some other companies. Wish me luck.

This post sums up the "bug" situation perfectly.

thats great to hear. It's a week before thanksgiving and we still have the bugs here in south ga. How is the sports scene in alaska? Im a huge football fan, is there very much interest in football, baseball, golf etc.? Just curious, because of the distance from the lower 48, and all of the major programs.

Since there's NO local PRofessional Football teams, you get to pick and no one can really give you crap... okay they WILL give you crap, but who doesn't. For local sports it's college Hockey, High School Sports, or... Dog Sledding, lol..

Yeah, there's Golf. Remember, Alaska is a big Military state, and where the Dept of Defense goes, so do Golf Courses, often times open to the public. oddly enough, Eielson AFB near fairbanks DOESN'T have a Golf Course (unusual for Air Force).

The only problem you MAY have with Football is the time difference. You'll be 4 hours behind East Coast, so a game could start at 4pm Alaska time, easily.

Nascar-now thats fantastic. wouldnt it be great i nascar put a track in kenai?
I live in the heart of nascar country. Im 3 hours from Daytona and darlington, 4 hours from atlanta and charlotte. We go to alot of races. If you have never been, you are truly missing out on alot. Football is in full swing here. Big monday night game going on down the road, Jacksonville vs. New York Giants.
I grew up in Seattle and Atlanta, so im a big Seahawk,Falcons fan. I think that going to the events will be the biggest thing I will miss. oh well, there are much worse things.

Attending a NASCAR event is one of those MUST DO BEFORE YOU DIE events, IMHO of course. We have been going to the annual NASCAR race here in Vegas for the last three years, it's been great. I will miss attending the races when we move to Alaska, unless we make a trip back to Vegas every year during the race. Watching NASCAR on TV is a let down after you have been to a live race, listening to the drivers on your scanner that cost as much as the tickets, paying $7 a bottle for a beer, navigating the traffic out of the track at the end of the race with a 100,000+ drunk rednecks behind the wheel.....Ahhhhhh NASCAR it's what life is all about.
