Has anyone spent anytime up there in the past few years? Thoughts or opinions on that community would be appreciated.

Appreciate that. I’ve never made it past Craig & Klawock. Next time I’ll stay longer and explore more.

I have used a private PT logger guy in Coffman Cove for daily sea / river charters and cabins.

Very inexpensive and great trips. (but that was a few yrs ago).

Beats the resort outfitters by many benefits. (Quiet, not rushed, lots of flexibility, always a full cooler on return, personable, plenty of secluded wildlife areas, fraction of the cost) and the best... the private operators are not jerks like the outfitters are! (and private clientele are not jerks either!) Lots of jerks at expensive fishing / guide camps. (Staff, guides, operators and clients). Often are on company sponsored trips, so they are all getting 'paid' whether you have a great experience a=or a terrible experience, it makes no difference to them.

Yeah, I don't know how many loggers are currently operating "private" charter businesses over in Coffman, but there's a reason why fishing trips on POW cost money. Maintaining boats, gear, accommodations, insurance and licenses isn't cheap. Anyone who's looking for a budget vacation to POW might want to consider renting a forest service cabin (there's at least one that I can think of that has road access) and doing some day charters with a reputable service if you're going out on the ocean (you really want a licensed captain with a very well-maintained vessel on these waters rather than a logger guy). You can cut a few corners fishing the rivers; steelhead is good in the fall. I wouldn't cut corners on an ocean trip unless you want to end up on the bottom of it.
