I'm curious what the Alaska forum members experiences of the weather in the vicinity of Anchorage is right now. All of the cargo and Goldstreak (so, passenger too) flights have been canceled and apparently the Glenn and the Parks are impassable to truck traffic.

The thing is, I've heard wildly different stories from people: some carriers and freight forwarders have told me harrowing stories, then I've spoken to a few people who were totally oblivious there was even an issue.

This has thrown a wrench in the system for my team and will likely wreck more than a few Christmases, so I'm pretty curious what the real weather story is down there.

It's currently pretty warm here at a nice balmy -10*F, but it's windy, so... ugh.

Right now at my house in Anchorage (lower hillside) it is +6F and calm. It is still windy in the Mat-Su valley. Yesterday was pretty windy everywhere and with a lot of snow on the ground, the wind was moving it around and making driving difficult. The airport is on the west side of town and it was very windy (gusts to 55mph) there yesterday.

Air travel-wise, I think Seattle is more of a problem than Anchorage. Since the majority of flights in and out of Anchorage go through Seattle in the winter, problems there become problems here.

I’m a little late, but I mailed a package on the 8th of December. It made it to anchorage and appears to have departed anchorage on the 9th. That was when the big snow storm hit. Well then the windstorm hit. It’s been pretty rough. Our schools have shut down numerous times since the month started. Waiting for cleaning to happen still.
