Hmmm, I don't think they were referring to "man overboard" when they mentioned "getting lost and disappearing" in Alaska...but hey, whatever works.

I heard a discussion once between a fisherman and a midwesterner about the various bodies brought up in trawls. She asked if there wasn't a 'missing persons' list that could be checked, and he said Yeah, IF they had friends/family who were interested enough to file a report, and IF they were using their legal names. Then she said What about DNA? Can't they test for DNA? And he said Yeah, if there's another family member available to compare it with - but these are basically torsos that are coming up, no hands to take fingerprints, no skull to identify through dental records, nothing. She got really really upset over the whole thing.

Reminds me of those feet they've been having wash up in Canada. I don't even want to know how the feet floated off on their lonesomes...Creepy.

Oh, and Wrennie, I've found that for those situations, a cattle prod is an invaluable tool.

The jerk should NOT have been touching you.

Yah I KNOW.
I filled Barkley (poor Barkley, I never shut up) abt the rest of the story this morning, and he even got a glimpse of the sis in law and had some hilarious ideas of things we could do about it...I swear, if I hadn't needed to get my butt to work I'd have taken him up on it...Barkley will make a great Alaskan.

It must have been great meeting Barkley...I was supposed to meet up with him too but I never got around to going back up. What can I say...it's been such a great year here for berries et al that I just stayed...

I understand about how you didn't want to cause waves but it reminds me of when my son was younger and my ex and I were close friends with another couple. I told the ex, and felt the same way about not wanting it to become a huge problem...things were never the same after that, but the guy turned out to be such a jerk in other ways that losing his friendship over it was no big thing.
