The Kenai River is very good. It's located on the Kenai Peninsula south of Anchorage. Also Halibut fishing out of Homer or Ninilchik is very good. He could fish for rockfish out of Seward or Whittier. Darn near every stream in this state has trout.

I second - whatever you want in a short distance...but probably true wherever you go that is near the ocean and rivers, .... We got spoiled here and hardly went out..think I am liking that...

Hi 'Had', My heart took a jump when you've mentioned Haines. After visiting that town a number of times, I am hopeful to settle there one of these days unless I drop dead from old age before then. I may be biased but I think it is much less hectic chartering out of Haines than say, like Homer. I've remembered, back in 2004, I went halibuting on a charter w/a rather large group out of Homer. (no offense to the locals but, it seems, there are more capitains mining the tourist than there are pure fishermans) I would not say it was shoulder to shoulder but it was somewhat intimate. I am told it is customary to tip the crewman who help you. Then, if you hook and land the largest of the group which I've accidently did, then, I am told, I should tip the capitain. By the time I had the fish cleaned, flash freezed and packaged, I've found my wallet thinning rather dramatically. Of course, I am told, it is the thrill of the catch and not the cost. Maybe that is why I do not fish very often anymore.
