And that would've been a waste

I had similar thoughts...only as a Scottish spinster

There are a lot of mail order brides here, saying thank you is about the only Filipino I know. My sister's older girls are half Filipino.

I learned Tagalog as a way of slowing down my drinking. That and the fact that the only girls I could talk to for about 5 years were native speakers and I needed to eavesdrop on their conversations together (most Americans couldn't be bothered, after all they all spoke English anyway).

It was also self-defense. My whole first name is Malachy, pronounced mal-a key, which means big in Tagalog. Being vertically challenged (PC speak for "short"), it made my name into a kind of a joke. I wound up introducing myself, pausing for the expected laugh, and then said they could call me "Pandak" (means "shorty") for short. Needless to say, I got a rep as a joker.

I told people I named him Big because I didn't want him to grow up as short as me. And look at him now! All of them are taller than I am. Thank God for "small" favors.

None of them have had girls scorn them for a height thing.
I am ROFL...my kids at about the age of 12, 13, 14, were taller than me and then I laughed their flunky butts off, mom could still take them down....know that and remember the glee they got..... and then skinny little mom's....
