I live in Bethel and will be in Anchorage for 9 days next month. I'd appreciate recommendations of where to get and who to get a prepaid cell phone from that I can use while I'm in town (and I need to get calls from Bethel too, so if that's counting as "roaming" I'd like to know).

I'm looking at all the Anchorage phone company sites and don't know what'd work for me, as I've never done this before.

I have no use for a cellphone after that period of time - so I don't want a contract.

Who in ANC can hook me up with this?

Editing to add: I don't need to use it once I'm back in Bethel - only in Anchorage. However, if I can GET calls from Bethel without it being charged as "roaming" that's a huge plus.

GCI just started their cell phone service last week. When you get into town, sign up for a phone there. The only phones that'll work here are the GCI ones, they aren't going to share with any other provider. You can get prepaid phones from AT&T and Alaska Digital in town.

Radio Shack has pre-paid. For like a hundred bucks you get a Nokia and about 700 minutes or something. If you get the phone in Anch...it won't be roaming when your there. It might be if you have it on in Bethel tho.
