My Way News - Calif. tax refunds to be delayed starting Feb. 1

This is a perfect example of what NOT to emulate. We have our problems but after reading this I have a lot more gratitude for what we do have here in Alaska.

Less than a week after the welfare checks fail to show up.

Not the only state it's going to be happening in, many others are on the verge of collapse financially.

Isn't that like stealing from your citizens? Will they pay interest on what's due?

Default Alaska Budget

If the oil dries up we will be in worse shape than California.

If you look at Alaska as an owner state like Governor Hickel likes to call it, than we are the highest taxed people in the country. The income from natural resources belongs to the people but is spent by the government. If you divide the budget by the population we have a huge tax. It's just that the state grabs our money before we get it.

If the resource income was actually distributed to the people and the state received its income from a tax I bet the budget would be a lot lower than it is. Right now, we kind of ignore how much the state spends as long as we don't have to send them any money personally.

The oil won't dry up immediately but there do need to be plans to get off the oil income without creating a tax heavy (on the population) state. AK doesn't have the number of entitlement programs CA does to drag it down so it's actually in good shape in that way. Not nearly as many miles of highways and roads to maintain either.

That is a very interesting way of looking at it. I do have to say that the spending in Alaska or rather the "things" we spend money on are different than the lower 48. For example, the road system up here is not maintained anywhere near like the lower 48. Seeing a plow is a big deal during a storm. Forget treating the roads let them ice over. We have a high rate of Alcoholism and drug addiction but no treatment centers to help those people break the addiction. Some days, I have a hard time seeing where all this oil money goes. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. Considering my home state of PA or in this case California, Alaska is setting pretty. This financial crash is the beginning of the end of what they call a free market. Now that the government owns banks and other institutions we teeter on socialism.. That should make the supporters of the new messiah happy hugh? So, how was that for a rambling post

You're watching the death of the U.S.. The socialism will only make things worse when it all falls apart. I'm just waiting to hear the news one of these days that China dumped all the U.S. debt they hold. That'll lead to the federal government collapsing, and with so many lower 48 states only surviving because of federal handouts, so too will they collapse. VT (my home state) will only survive with federal funds soon.

Yep, Alaska is sitting quite well right now. Watch the feds try to seize the permanent fund money or something though.
