Hi again,
According to mapqwest, the fastest route north from CO is up through WY, MT, and then up through Canada and then over. We originally thought the best route would be to venture westward up along the coast. However, mapqwest says driving up the coast will take longer. How do you come down or did you go up?

P.S. Summertime

I would suggest trying some other sights besides Mapquest. Like Google Earth,Microsoft or Rand Mcnally.

Buy a copy of the Milepost. It is an invaluable travel guide to and from Alaska.

From Colorado its much shorter if you head north rather than going over to Washington and then north

Go to Google Maps...select Get Directions...put in Colorado in Box A, put in Alaska in Box B and click on Get Directions..

I put in Colorado and then Anchorage Alaska and it came up with 3300 miles.

I then put in Fountain Colorado to Sumas Washington, which is the correct place to cross over

Comes up with 1519 miles...

Then put in Sumas Washington and Anchorage Alaska and that comes up with 2270 miles for a total of 3789 miles..

Thank you all. I appreciate the quick response. We are hoping to hear soon on whether we are going to AK or not. Not knowing where we are moving is driving me nuts...I am a planner and I hate not knowing where I will be spending the summer! Additionally, I am a sped teacher and those jobs start posting after spring break- which is soon!!
Thanks again!

Thanks warpt, unfortunately I am moderate needs which isn't any of those. And, a BIG AND, we are going where DH can get a job because he makes about twice than me...my small teacher salary doesn't support us so we go where he can get a job. That's the nice thing about being sped, you can pretty much get a job anywhere.

I will definitely pick that up GLitch. Thanks.

We are pretty sure we are bringing our camper too, so we would be hitting campgrounds all the way up. Think that is doable? We have three kids and a couple cats so I think the most we would do in a day is 8 hours or so. Potty breaks, stretching, etc...

I also see gas is sold in liters in Canada, interesting. Can you tell I have been in the US and only in the US? I have always wanted to travel...better get started huh! We would be pulling the 35footer with a dodge ram diesel (3500) and we are kicking around the idea of selling our ATVs. We bought them for a great deal (well at least for CO standards)- 3 polaris quads and a trailer for $5800, a couple years old.

We believe we can fork out $5500 for the move, I am worried it won't be enough though with gas prices. I have to check campground fees. Most everyone I talk to who has moved from AK has had the military pay for it so they weren't sure how much it totally cost.

Most of the campgrounds are Wifi now. Camping is very doable on the whole route!
