Are there any northern water snakes at the Bolton Landing swimming area open to the public (near the tourist info office), and if so, has any swimmer ever been a water snake bite victim there or on any other part Lake George?
After reading about water snakes in NY and their nasty bites, I am hesitant to make plans to go to Bolton Landing this summer and swim in Lake George.
Until I moved from upstate NY last year, I swam, boated and fished in Lake George for over thirty years and never saw or heard of any water snakes. I know that rattle snakes have been seen on Tongue Mountain from time to time, but I don't think they like to swim.
Been going up to LG every year for the last 25 years and have spent much of my time in that lake. I've never seen any water snakes of any kind in the water...
I've grown up going to lakes in the Adirondacks, I've never seen or even heard of a water snake. I have seen a rattle snake on Tongue Mtn like a previous poster mentioned. That's one rattle snake that my family of 4+ generations has ever seen in the area, so one in 90+ years isn't bad. I say enjoy your vacation at Lake George and don't give it another thought!
