Hi all,
I am 33 have three kids and I have been married for 9 years. my wife and I have been trying to move to the glens falls/queensbury area for sometime now. I cannot seem to find a decent job. because I am not local everyone ignores my resume. I am a Purchasing/Procurement professional and have alot of experience in many other fields. I have tried every job search engine out there and have had very little luck. I have a good resume and work history and do not require relocation assistance. Long island has just become ridiculous. lol...any help from anyone or direction is greatly appreciated. i am just trying to gube my family a better life.thanks!
You may have to expand your search south. Have you check classified ads in Times-Union newspaper? Although people complain about the traffic, in all honesty, if you driven in LI, the Northway is a piece of cake. It slows down a bit during rush hour, but no big deal.
Are you on LinkedIn? Does the college/university you attended have an alumni networking group-you could see if there are any other grads in the area you could network with.
First, is your address on your resume? If so, remove it! And make sure to include a compelling story on your cover letter expressing your desire to relocate.
Second, with number of public, private colleges & universities and the state gov.. It surprises me your not having much luck finding work in procurement! If your just looking in Glens Falls, definitely expand your search radius to include Albany and the surrounding areas.
Doing a quick search on indeed.com SUNY Polytechnic is hiring for a Grants & Contract Manager, but not much else comes up. Maybe connect with a headhunter in the area, and check out the career/employment for each of the colleges. Keep looking, something is bound to come up!
