Some of them just don't get it.

I'll have several bags for things, some of my "bags" are triple-bagged
and the baggers will start pulling them apart ( so I can have three )
and I'll have to take the time to intervene ...

Others, will finish up and stuff the extra bags into the other ones
with food in them and when they find that they missed an item,
out will come a new bag and the item will get stuffed into it.
If I take the item out and put it into one of my old ones,
the brand new one will then get tossed.

Yup. Over time, these places will get trained.
If I wanted a new bag, I would ask for one.

Everybody does.

Once you have used a brand-new bag, you can bring it back.

I have bags from Jewell-Osco acquired in the mid-1990's.
I have older ones from Smith's. They last until they are either
contaminated or ripped.

I just don't see the reason to spend money buying a "special" bag
to put my groceries in, when I have jillions of them hanging around
my house. Several plastic ones can be compressed into a small vial.
Dozens of them can fit in a plastic jar in the car. The canvas ones
are more intrusive and offer no benefit other than, I guess, they are
"attractive" and/or "stylish."

Mine are neither attractive nor stylish but are durable, handle sharp edges without tearing, and the handles do not cut through my fingers (plastic) or come unglued (paper) if I have to carry stuff for a distance.

Pretty weak analogy, mortimer.

Never ceases to amaze me how unfashionable large families are today, even though they used to be the norm, or at least common.

President William Henry Harrison (1841) had 10 children.
President John Tyler (1841-1845) had 15 children.

I'm sure you could find presidential legacies more idiotic than theirs. No doubt at least one of your ancestors was a double-digit-numbered child.

All irrelevant.

It's idiotic today, in the year 2010.
