$375 to have a new one installed. Around 10am I noticed that there didn't seem to be
any air coming from the vents so I checked the thermostat and circuit breakers and
it was obvious that there had been some sort of breakdown.

We have a service contract with TLC and they were out within 3 hours, diagnosed the
problem and within 30 minutes had installed a new motor. I'm usually a bit hesitant to
recommend companies, but we've been with them for almost two years and they've done
well by us.

That seems a little high IMO.

Maybe. What would you consider a 'good' price for a service call and a 3/4 hp motor installed?

I would guess that the motor is like $40-$50. Installation is simple. 1 person who know what they are doing can do it within 1 hour. Even if they are charging $80/hour, that is less than $150 before taxes. Then again, I am just guessing, I may be wrong.

Edit: Just read your post more closely. 30 minutes of work at that rate would only be another $40, making the whole job less than $100.

Thanks, Stan.

I guess Berncohomes has decided not to answer because he's made other posts since I
asked him.

I would have thought that the motor was more in the $200-250 range but I really have
no idea which is why I asked what was a 'good price'. If they really are that cheap, I may
look around for a different a/c company..

Thanks!

TLC has a reputation for being one of the most expensive service companies in town. We used them once and, while they did the job fine, it cost us almost twice what another plumber charged us the next time for similar work.

Sorry Mike didn't notice you had replied.

Ours went out last August, it was covered under warranty but I still shopped around just in case. I remember the motors alone would retail from around $75 to $125. TLC would pay wholesale which would be cheaper than that. An hour rate for the call out is reasonable so I would have thought around $155-$205 would be a more reasonable price.

Thanks for the responses.

I guess I'll start shopping around for an alternate.

I always check parts prices online before calling in for any service call and I usually shop around.
