Back in December (12/14/2010) I was headed home to the NE heights late morning. I saw this police procession of about 100plus police cars and motor cycles (from various jurisdictions) coming down Academy. Figured it was a police funeral. I looked at the obituaries and newspaper and can not find anything about it. Anyone know what was going on??

Was it the one where the deputy was killed in a car wreck at Gibson & Carlisle?

This is probably a little late, but it was probably the Cops for Kids program, I think that is the name of it. Every year officers from various jurisdictions get together and "adopt" a kid for the day. They take them to a store and buy them a present or presents, then afterwords they head to Century Rio for a movie and food.

The only reason I know is because I was stopped for a few minutes on Jefferson and I-25 and had to ask an APD officer that I work with.

Was it on Sunday, Dec 12th, 2010? The 16th annual "Cops for Kids" program. One hundred and five officers were each paired with less-fortunate children to take them to breakfast, and then to the Walmart at Academy and Wyoming to get pictures with Santa. Each child was also given $100 to shop at the store. After taking pictures with Santa and loading up their stuff, the kids went to Century Rio 24 to see the movie “Tangled."

Albuquerque Police Department 2013 Cops for Kids

Published on Dec 15, 2013

The ALBUQUERQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT had their 19th, annual Cops for kids program on Sunday, December 8th, 2013. This year approximately 100 underprivileged children participated in this one day event. Each child was paired up with an Officer or Deputy for the day. The child was picked up at their home and taken to a full breakfast provided by Furr's Fresh Buffet. After breakfast a lights and siren caravan took place and head for Walmart where they were greeted by Santa and his elves. Each child was given a $100.00 gift card and will be required to purchase much needed items such as clothes or shoes, after which they were allowed to purchase other items they desired.
