OK, first, thank you in advance for answering the question, If you remember your last move, you might recall the last few days and how hectic it was. I may not have time to properly thank everyone who replies, as we are getting down to the nitty gritty here.

We are packing, and packing and packing. And arguing. Bring this, leave that. I think we need to send most of the heavy coats, hats, mittens, snow pants, etc to the goodwill. My spousal unit wants to keep them "in case." I am not talking about ski gear, that is different and we packed that. I'm talking about "everyday" mittens, hats and down parkas. I think this quantity of cold weather wear is unnecessary. My husband thinks we should avoid possibly having to just buy it again later. Everyone has "medium" weight coats as well, I'm not suggesting they shiver all winter. But all the extra boxes for stuff for temps less than 20* seems silly. Vermont was a possibility for this move, but we decided against it, so lets get rid of this stuff?

Right? I am not going to do a single thing but sit here and sip coffee until I have some acceptable majority of responses, so take your time.

Counting down. 4days.....

We do have days that are below 20 degrees here in Albuquerque. Granted they are rare, but they do happen. We do not have snow pants, but we do have heavy coats / parkas, scarves, hats, mittens / gloves. This past season we had a winter blast with subzero temps. There were a handful of days that were dangerously cold. We have neighbors who moved here a few years ago and were advised that they did not need all the winter gear. They have since bought all the winter gear that they donated before moving here.

Good luck on resolving the argument!

Not sure about the snow pants, but the heavy coats, hats and mittens will come in handy.

Here's a bird's eye view of what the weather was like for a few weeks this past winter.

I'm sure you could do with fewer of everything, so you might as well lighten the moving load. Parkas you can do without. You won't have constant need for this stuff during the winter here like you do back east. It gets cold at night, but most afternoons in winter you'll be fine with a light jacket or sweatshirt. My mom still has a coat closet full of heavy winter coats she brought from Michigan nine years ago. She has never worn them here but keeps them "just in case". "Just in case" she moves back to Michigan?

Definitely lighten up on most everything on your list - keep at least one heavy coat around just in case. I don't think you'll need snow pants. I get by very comfortably during the day in a medium weight coat with layers under it (like a sweater or something) throughout the winter. However, if you're going out at night to dinner or wherever, it might be nice to have one warmer coat around to wear (maybe).

This also depends on if you want to venture to the mountains in the winter for fun & sports.

It can be below 0 deg at the top of Sandia Peak in late Jan and the wind can get pretty strong too.

Edit: I see you are bringing your ski stuff. Never mind, sry.
