Hi everyone, I have read these forums and have gotten some great information off of here, so thank you to all who has participated. I KNOW this topic is on here ALOT and I have tried to gather all of the information I can as far as where to live but I am at a loss. I JUST got a job offer to work at the VA Hospital that I accepted and I have to be in ABQ and in an apartment by April 3, 2012!!! I am currently in Florida and dont have the time or money to fly out there for a few days to look around and pick a place so I am going to have to get whatever information I can from the internet and basically sign a lease for an apartment over the phone... as much as I don't want to do that I don't really have any other choice. I have considered trying to stay in a hotel for the first week to two before picking an apartment but thats not really ideal for me either.

From what I have gathered here, it seems that ABQ has crime like every other city in the world. I have seen posts where "the war zone" and "south valley" are hell and other posts where people seem to not be bothered by them. Im not TOO picky when it comes to this. I mean I don't want to live in or on the main drug block or next door to the biggest meth lab, but I don't really need to be in the "best" or "safest" neighborhood either. I just need some advice and apartment names from locals that I should look into since I won't be able to look around for myself before I get there.

I have a truck so I don't or won't mind a 10 or 15 minute drive to and from work (VA Hospital). I am a single 27 year old male who likes a little bit of everything. ANY referrals or information on what complexes to look into would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Again I am REALLY sorry for starting ANOTHER one of these posts and personalizing it so much but I need some kind of guidance so I am not going into this COMPLETELY blind!! lol

Thank you in advance...

Yeah, I have read those and many other posts. Anyone have any SPECIFIC names of complexes you would recommend?? If not no big deal but I have been looking EVERYWHERE online and reading reviews for different complexes and still dont have a "solid" choice or 2 to choose from.

SGreen, it looks like you and I are in the same boat. I'm moving in May to Albuquerque sight unseen. I'm not sure if you can do this, but I'm planning on staying in an extended stay motel for a week while I can search for an apartment. I found a place called Intown Suites. It costs $179 for the week.

I don't know what the commute times are from different areas, but a couple people have given me thumbs up on Mountain Run Apartments. Their address is 5800 Eubank Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM 87111. I'm also looking at The Beach apartments by the zoo, but somebody told me they have some plumbing issues.

SGreen84, it would help to know what your budget is.

Mountain Run is not close to the VA. There would be a lot of other good options that are closer than that.

Sobefobik, thanks for the information, I really appreciate it. I guess I am going to have to stay in a hotel as well. I found one on craigslist that was offering a month stay for $499 + Tax. I called them yesterday to make sure and they said that was correct. The total about came to like $550. They also do a weekly rate of $159 + Tax. It is called Americas Best Value Inn, I guess I am going to stay there for a month to scope the area out and give me time to start collecting my paychecks from the VA.

aries63, Im looking to spend no more than like $650 or so for rent and utilities... if thats possible. Again I know I won't get the nicest thing ABQ has to offer for that price nor do I need that, I just don't want to be in "the bottom 15 %" ABQ has to offer either. Just somewhere I can feel relatively confident that my truck wont get broken into every week and somewhere that the building isnt falling apart over my head. I am HOPING that I can get a feel for the area and complexes while I am staying in the hotel for the first month, but if you have any complex names that you think would fit into my budget I would love to hear them!!

There are a number of older complexes near the VA but not in the best areas. I knew a student who lived at Villa Apartments and said it was OK but it's across from a middle school. Villa Apartments (shows 1BR for $565) and had friends in other complexes there which I wouldn't recommend. This was a while ago so I can't say how it is now. Management changes frequently everywhere it seems. But you can certainly check them out. Good luck!
