As a Phoenician I have never really noticed many Cardinals fans in ABQ. I plan on spending a weekend in Uptown next month as there are a couple good pubs within walking distance of the Marriot on Louisiana. Is it Broncos and Cowboys fans predominately or are there other significant rooting interests ?
I moved to PHX back in January and nearly got in a brawl as a NY Giants fan in Amarillo that weekend while moving to PHX. The Giants upset the Packers that day and celebrated at The Big Texan Steak Ranch bar. It did not go over well needless to say.
I'd say it's split between the Cowboys and Broncos, with a few Cardinals fans here and there. Oh, and Packers fans, but there are Packers fans everywhere.
Burquebinder's observations correlate very closely with my own. Although I must say, Broncos are under the radar lately, fanwise. I would also say that sports fan allegiance has diversified quite a bit in the last decade or so. Albuquerque is becoming less provincial in that regard.
The 5 most popular in ABQ from my observations seem to be the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders
After the obvious Broncos and Cowboys, the bumper stickers I saw most were Steelers. From what I've heard, the Steelers are also the adopted team of the Navajo nation, which may have some carryover into the Albuquerque area.
So if ABQ got a pro NFL team, would that change anyones mind of your fav team?
No, because anyone reading these posts, their children, their grandchildren and their great grandchildren will all be long dead before ABQ gets an NFL team.
