I'm fairly new to Albuquerque and I knew, before moving, that the African American population is extremely small. I'm married, early thirties, young professional...trying to find some kind of nightlife in this city. Where we lived before, there was always something to do (plays, jazz clubs, comedy shows, concerts, happy hour, lounges & bars, etc). Here I havent found anything yet.
Any suggestions on things to do for the young, professional African American crowd??

Welcome to Albuquerque! Night life, well, I am married with children and retired, I don't have the nightlife spirit and energy anymore. Albuquerque maybe is lacking in that a bit. My early nightlife days were in Ft Lauderdale... But check out these threads:

For jazz, check out the Outpost Performance space ( The Outpost Performance Space ) and the NM Jazz workshop ( NM Jazz Workshop ). There is also a NM Jazz Festival every summer, with many performances in ABQ and Santa Fe ( new mexico jazz festival ).

There are often name performers from many genres appearing at the Kimo in ABQ and the Lensic in Santa Fe. The info is on their web sites. You can also periodically check local casino web sites to find who is slated to appear in their show rooms. Popejoy Auditorium, on the UNM campus, also has many touring Broadway productions and some individual performances.

We don't do the bar scene, but several places around ABQ advertise performances in the ABQ Journal and the Weekly Alibi.
