Why in the world did Donald Trump bad mouth Susana Martinez during his Albuquerque rally? What did he think he could possibly gain by doing that?

Some folks think she is a possible candidate for vice president. Despite this, she refused to attend the rally.

What's going on here?

I came here to say this exact thing. If Trump had had her endorsement beforehand, he would have blamed her poor governorship on Obama somehow, likely the "soft on crime" argument or some such nonsense. Her poor record would somehow be the fault of the Left or the Establishment Right.

I don't like Martinez at all, but I must say, she handled his childishness with professionalism and class.

He's a lowlife jerk.

Trump claimed at his rally in Albuquerque that "large numbers" of Syrian refugees have been resettled in New Mexico, and blamed Martinez for it, boasting "That wouldn't be happening" if he were governor. But it was a lie, exposed by FactCheck.org:

"According to statistics from the State Department’s Refugee Processing Center, there have been 2,540 Syrian refugees relocated in the U.S. from the start of the fiscal year that began Oct. 1 to May 24. Just four of them were relocated to New Mexico."
