It is for fantasy/entertainment/fictional purposes.

I was looking for a name that went well for an American football team based in Albuquerque and that represented New Mexico in general, surely the team would be called starting with New Mexico "..........." , I want a name that has relationship with the city or state (not as often happens in professional teams).

I was reading about the city of Albuquerque and New Mexico, history, economy, geography, culture, etc.., of many possible names. I decided to choose four:

Drillers because oil and gas are important economic factors in New Mexico that is why I chose drillers and not just Oilers.

Outlaws by the stories of the "wild west" in the metropolitan area of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, and New Mexico in general, others could be Renegades, Desperados, Cowboys, Ranchers, etc...

Bulls for a reason similar to the previous one and for being a typical animal in Spanish and Mexican culture, New Mexico is one of the states that would be closer to that tradition and that of the "Old West".

Monarchs for the "Duke city” and for that tradition mentioned above.

Even Aztecs could be another name. I also thought of others as Black Bears or Roadrunners for being animals that are mentioned as state animals.

Later I found this forum and I thought it would be interesting to do a small survey in a place where there were people from New Mexico and know their opinion, which I think is very very interesting, since sometimes it has been done to consult an appropriate name for a team in a city and I thought it would not be very annoying for people.

It would also be interesting for a future team in New Mexico

the Walter Whites..

I appreciate your thread, but my opinion, 'Drillers' is not good. It's kinda generic to be a regional reference. And the name (without going into a detailed & unsolicited explanation) sounds gross.. But I agree with your passing over 'Oilers', already have an NHL franchise & former NFL team w/that monicker. peace
