Can someone please give me an idea of what to expect of internet availability and approximate speeds in the Placitas area? We might be looking around Diamond tail area, but any info will be appreciated.

The general providers here are Comcast broadband and CenturyLink DSL. If you can get them, they have a full range of speeds if you're willing to pay for them.
That said, Diamond Tail is about as far as one can get from everything else in Placitas. I think you need to contact those companies directly to find out if their service extends that far off 165. Also, cell service here gets even more spotty the further east you go, and Diamond Tail is 7-8 miles east of I-25. We live 2-3 miles east of I-25 and we have Comcast and erratic cell service.
The zip here is 87043, but I would try to get actual addresses to find service. If you're using a realtor, perhaps they can help and should be up to speed on those services here.
I've heard that reception starts becoming spotty once you're east of the "S" curve.
