Default Best Hot Spring in Jemez Mountains

I've narrowed it down to 3...

San Antonio
McCauley
Spence

Anyone have an opinion? I've never been in a hot spring. Are some really hot? I guess I'm picturing one that is a little cooler than a hot tub where you can soak for a good amount of time and it not be too crowded. Anyone have a favorite? Thanks.

Based on your criteria, that is McCauley. Park at Battleship Rock and hike up the trail.

> ... hot spring. Are some really hot?

The temperature that I have seen for the temperature of hot springs as they come out of the ground in the Jemez Springs area is 50 deg C / 122 deg F which is hotter than you can stand.

Common temps where it is regulated is 104-106 deg F.

The water coming out of the rock on the other side of the rock from the Soda Dam is hotter than you can stand when you stick your hand in it.

> picturing one that is a little cooler than a hot tub ...

Out in the wilds, you can just let the water run out of the main pool into another pool down the hill and the exposure and mixing, if applicable, will yield a cooler temperature.

This is a good site for hot springs info:
Soak.Net -- A place for natural hot springs resources.

The Forest Service site:
Jemez Springs, New Mexico

There is nothing wrong with the old Jemez Springs Bathhouse:
Jemez Springs Bathhouse
You get a cold water spout to mix with the hot spring water for a nice experience.
