From what I read, the Trail of Turquoise appears to be a tantalizing day trip. Would it be worth it? Has anybody been on this trip? I would be going in the coming weeks. Thanks for any replies.

Are you asking about the scenic route "Turquoise Trail" on Hwy 14 through Cedar Crest and Madrid and on to Santa Fe?

It's a pleasant drive. Madrid is an interesting place to stop.

It's one of the top scenic attractions in the area. Not to be missed.

A side trip is the Sandia Crest Highway, a 14-mile one-way road to the top of the mountain with 360-degree views. The quirky Tinkertown Museum is open in the summer Friday-Monday only.

In Madrid, the Mine Shaft Tavern and The Hollar are both fun places to eat. They get crowded in summer, especially on weekends.

Wasn't the Mine Shaft Tavern used as the interior for the tv show Longmire?

Also, the first time I drove it, I accidentally took a wrong turn and it ended up being an experience on its own. I actually went up to Sandia Peak and to Placitas. That's an outstanding ascent into the heart of the Sandias.

I never saw Longmire but apparently it was the location called the Red Pony in the show.

We've taken that trip and down from Placitas a few times. It's a fun drive, if you have a vehicle that can handle that road. We need to visit Sandia Man Cave again.
