Up here in Milwaukee, it is snowing (again) - probably about 6 or 7 inches total when this wraps up this afternoon. Drove to work in the snow and will drive home in the snow.

About 15 inches of snowfall up here so far this year after last winter (my first back here from Albuquerque) was 100 inches.

Trust me ABQeans, ABQ "snow" is the best kind - brief, minimal, with minimal "cold" that passes quickly.

I am headed down there - my beloved rightful adopted hometown - in late January, and I cannot wait for the relative warmth of the high desert sunshine (and lack of massive snow!).

Will you be interviewing for jobs and a potential move back to your adopted hometown? I sure hope so, we miss our ambassador!

Larger Snow Storms in Albuquerque wont come till January, well lets see this year were susposed to have a dry one, well my family in Chimayo got over a foot of snow

I wont forget the winters of 91 and 92 when albuquerque got over 2 1/2 feet of snow..in several storms.

Got up this morning a little after 7:00, the white powder was just starting to come down here in the foothills south of 165 in Placitas...by 8:00 our entire property was dusted in white and the walls around the courtyard were mounded with snow. Since we just arrived here with the movers on Saturday I've been waiting for our first snow as residents of NM...it was georgous...and gone by 1:00, so we took a short hike mid afternoon. What a great chapter in life this is going to be living in New Mexico!

Welcome to New Mexico, trailtramp!

"Adventure" is exactly the right word for the time you are embarking on.

Hi folks -

Yep, as Finmqa1 you say, part of my plan is even if I cannot get formal interviews lined up, using the time down there to hopefully work the few connections I have and at least try to do some intensive networking to grease the wheels for prospective opportunities.

My wife and I would like nothing more than to move back to ABQ tomorrow - this has been the case for some time - but unfortunately, with a) the current economic climate (and businesses really tightening up for hiring if they are hiring at all), b) my well-out-of-state status (making me a tougher applicant even in a good economy), and c) a real particular I have in terms of a salary requirement, it just seems like it isn't in the cards for us to even have a realistic opportunity to move back; this is disheartening in some regards, but it just is what it is.

However, I guess I shouldn't be too defeatist and am continually scrolling targeted employers in ABQ for possible ideal options. Should one hit, and should the employer be willing to work with me being an out-of-state applicant, we'd be back yesterday.

Regardless, my wife and little ones are going to be out-of-town on a trip of their own for 3+ weeks coming up in Jan/Feb, leaving me a "bachelor" for that period, and I decided that darn it all, I was going to use a week or so of that time and get back down to ABQ (with a jaunt through Las Cruces and El Paso) if for no other reason than to enjoy the weather, relax, go to Garcia's for breakfast burritos, the Frontier for tortillas and soft chicken tacos, and enjoy the heck out of my rightful hometown so darn much that it'll be downright painful to get on my plane back here.

The amazing thing about this past 1.5 years for us up here is that overall, beyond the weather and taxes, we don't have utter disdain or anything for Milwaukee. There are several quality of life elements we do enjoy about being up here. Truly, it is just that we miss Albuquerque / New Mexico so passionately. We miss the weather, the mountains, the food, the sunsets/sunrises, the people, the culture, the unique cultural events, the food, the sunshine, the friendliness, the cost of living, the taxes, the food...I could go on forever. It isn't like we desire to be back in ABQ to "flee" Milwaukee (weather notwithstanding), however, it is more to re-embrace our slice of the nation that so best fits us.

As I am sure you both can imagine, I am super stoked to see the Sunport again!

You are out of state NOW, but would the fact that you have lived in ABQ previously and have a job experience record there help some?

Two of the best reasons in the world to find a way to move back here. Maybe the Frontier needs a cook?

Flying into the Sunport is the best, EP! I last did it in May, and took a taxi up into the Heights. It was low 70's with the sun shining, and the taxi driver had the windows open on the ride home. That feeling of being back in Albuq/NM was indescribable [even though I had only been gone a short while].
