I made it a point to stop at Frontier and have a breakfast burrito and cinnamon roll... and I am a changed man.
It was my 2nd trip to ABQ this year and it is basically settled, my wife and I will be moving out in June with our baby girl. Many more Frontier breakfast burritos to come.
Thanks to everyone for sharing the information that helped us make the decision.

Not to sound negative or brash or rude or anything like that, but before you move to Burque, I hope you have a JOB lined up before you come out here.
Forget work, I am just going to eat breakfast burritos all day....
just kidding. The job is taken care of. Thanks
If that was a job, then I'd be the first in line. You are smart enough to move with a job lined up. Therefore, you are smarter than 98% of Americans today.

Just sayin'...

So can someone enlighten me on the history of relocating before the job offer is sealed? I see there are lots of stats giving some severe poverty throughout NM. I am sure with poor economy anything to deal with low income is more than overwhelmed.
Let's face it, I know from experience that it can also be hard to find a rental while you are working if you have kids. Extended stay motels aren't that great, ok? But I am also VERY sure I don't want to wind up there if there's no job and no sofa to crash on as a backup. I am forced to wait a few weeks to take an exam before I can get an official job offer. I love Albuquerque but wouldn't want to live there if there is no job.
I'm just curious to know the background. Some cities have a tough time and give non-natives a hard time because of the employment situation. I once lived in Jacksonville, FL when you could get a job easier as an out of towner than a native. Now, 10 years later, the opposite is true. No non-natives can get a job anywhere. GA is same thing. You can get a job if you know someone for a decade or more, but not if you are most qualified.
I would appreciate answers because I don't want to take the job and find I am made miserable on a daily basis because someone thinks I took a job away from a local person. Been there and done that.....

Wow...reading your post makes me remember why I've been self employed for many years. I thank God daily!!
EasyJett, self-employment is the only other option available....lol.....I realize now I was talked out of doing my own gig while in GA because some people only feel good if someone is worse than them. :-) Yes, it's truly that crazy of a situation but that's family for you.
Anyway, just curious about work culture there. When I visited for vacation, it wasn't like I asked everyone who helped me how they felt about working. I might have to do that.
I'd say it really depends on your field of work as well as the size of the company and where your co-workers are from. I know, for example, that many local and state government jobs are open to all sorts of applicants, yet it seems many many people are able to get an "in" with a friend or relative, so a job that's advertised as open to all really is not unless an outside candidate has experience that blows away what a local would have.
When I first moved here, I was able to secure a job in my industry relatively easily. I lasted less than six months. The head honcho was an out of stater originally but the people I worked with were all locals, had been there a long time, and made no moves to welcome me. C'est la vie. It was a small business, that had a lot to do with it. Later I worked for a large call center with people who were native, as well as recent and not so recent relocaters and it did not seem to make any difference either in hiring or in the feel of the office.
That's at least realistic and expected. Every office or location had a different feel in almost every other place I have lived besides GA and FL. It's just a totally hostile environment seeking a job in GA as a non-native....even though large extended family is present. I just never quite encountered anything close to this. I grew up in NJ where there are folks from every other state and every other country all in the same area.
