My wife and I are retired and are evaluating a move to Albuquerque from the hill county of Texas just north of Austin, Texas. My hobby is cycling (road biking) and would appreciate some input on cycling in Albuquerque – Rio Rancho area. I ride about 3 or 4 times a week for a distance 20 to 30 miles at about 13-14 mph. I have seen the Bike Path Map on the Official City Website and there seems to be many roads with designated bike lanes. I also checked out mapmyride.com and see quite a few routes mapped out but see few comments. If anyone out there is an Albuquerque cyclist, please provide your opinion on cycling there. Any opinions on any good neighborhoods that are close to some good cycling routes would be helpful. I got spoiled here because cycling is real big and either the country roads are not well traveled or the well traveled ones have wide shoulders. Plus folks here are generally considerate of cyclists. Thanks.

Hello! Albuquerque has a pretty large up-and-coming cycling community. I've met a lot of people who make frequent use of the trails and bikelanes, and seem to enjoy biking here quite a bit. I found this website, which may or may not be an asset to you ---> BikeABQ - Bike Advocacy in Albuquerque You might be able to use it to get more information... The city recently completed the "Bicycle Boulevard," which re-posted Silver Avenue as 18-22 mph speed limit so that cyclists could have a safer thoroughfare to get cross town. So, cycling is getting better here. The bosque trail is the only one of the trails I have been down to any extent, and it was well-kept and great. I imagine the other trails are nice as well. I hope I've helped some, at least!

ABQ is a great cycling city. Rio Rancho, not so much - though there are nice routes nearby (i.e. Tramway). The most bike-friendly areas tend to be on the east side of the Rio Grande. You should check out the link for BikeABQ that JBM provided. You might want to get involved in their group to help improve cycling in the area should you decide to make the move. The more cyclists, the better!
