I believe people that are heavy alcoholics produce formaldehyde in their bodies and thus smell like death.

Acetaldehyde is a poison which is a close relative of formaldehyde

What's the difference?

It's a common misconception that beer or wine contain less alcohol than spirits.

12oz regular beer, 5oz red wine and a mixed drink with 1.5oz of liquor contain the same amount of alcohol.

As far as the smell, if it's not the breath you are talking about, it's all the same, the body emits the odors through the pores of the skin.

BTW, vodka does smell. Next time you see some, open the bottle and take a whiff.
