I take the dietary supplement Liquid Soft Gel Green Tea that I buy at Costco. When I first started taking it, I had heart palpitations, too. I would even wake up with a wildly beating heart in the morning. I read the box and it says it also has caffeine. So I immediately changed my coffee to decaf (I normally drank three mugs of regular per day) and took two green tea capsules a day instead of the recommended three. The palpitations stopped. I now take one green tea capsule in the morning and one in the afternoon -- and I have been able to go back to half-decaf coffee. But I've tried full caf coffee and the palps start again.
If you don't drink ANY caffeinated beverages, your problem might be the pills. You might try going off the tea pills and caffeine totally for a few days (at least until your hives completely heal), then introduce as small a dosage as possible and see if you have some reaction. From everything I've read, while heart palpitations feel really weird, they won't kill you.
I'm curious, what are the benefits of taking green tea supplements? Is this for losing weight or something?
I would probably stop taking them if I were having heart palpitations and hives...
