Don't know if it reached international news yet, but we just got hit with another earthquake close to an 8.0.

They're telling us to evacuate again.

Looked at the map, earthquake is in the way north in Iquique. Wow, Chile has it the worst when it comes to earthquakes. I think Chile does hold the record for having the most earthquakes above 7.0 in the world. Be safe!

The fact that not a single Chilean city has been flattened (or greatly destroyed) by these extremely powerful earthquakes prove that Chilean cities are well built. I'm not sure the same can be said of most Latin American cities, especially in the informally built neighborhoods.

Yes - we heard about it almost immediately - last word was 8.2. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has alerts and many of us in Hawaii or with family in Hawaii are well aware of every earthquake in the Rim of Fire. Kudos to Chile for building your infrastructures strong enough to withstand these earthquakes. I hear the death toll was low, but those deaths mattered because someone lost someone they loved. My condolences.

I hear you've had a couple of 7.2 aftershocks as well! Yikes. Be safe!

Have been praying for you guys down there. Stay safe. Saw you had at least 3 more in the 4-5. range within the last 24 hrs from the earthquake site. You sure having been getting some major aftershocks.

I have this site saved so I can keep an eye on earthquakes around the world.

Earthquakes
Yeah, but the 4-5 range ones happen almost daily. The infrastructure is nearly untouchable until they reach 7.0. However, we just had a huge forest fire and now there are 500+ houses burned down and thousands of people with no home. This happened 10 mins from where I live. It was terrible.
