The man was ridiculed on all national media, everyone from all regions (colombia is very regionally divided) jumped to defend the Chocó showcasing a big F you! to the Latin backward mentality.

A gif saying "I'm going to go insult Nicolas Gaviria so he can send me to the Chocó" was trending on all social media. A period of mental maturity is long overdue but underway in Colombia.

"Take a picture with me Mr. president or I'll send you to Chocó."
That is horrible- new technology and social media are not allowing these backwards people to get away with everything anymore.

Unfortunately this is all too common ALL throughout Latin America, and some want to bring it to the USA.

I don't think so!

The only countries that have a grudge with Spain are the American countries whose populations are very Amerindian, countries such as Mexico, Peru, and Bolivia.

I agree, we should deport all Colombians and their criminal gangs back to their country. They have been destroying and flooding South Florida with drugs, crime, and prostitutes.

This is what Colombians do after becoming naturalized U.S. citizens:

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/mi...13-13e0gu.html

The evidence is immense. Countries (USA, Venezuela, and Spain) that receive massive waves of Colombians have their quality of life reduced.

The globalization of the Colombian organized crime (Drug cartels) destroys the host countries like a virus.

It's already in the US, just look at MiamiResident's previous post ^^.

He obviously doesn't know that Colombia is Florida's second most important trading partner and growing exponentially, creating countless jobs in both economies. And before the same ol' predictable drug jokes come up - yes I mean legal trade!

You relocated to London.

This is how Colombians make a living in London:

For your information I never relocated anywhere, I'm born and bred in London and a proud Brit to boot. Colombians have been a considerable part of London culture since the 70's just ask the iconic British bands the Clash and the Eurythmics.

Thank you for digging up all negative media stories re: Colombians - you must really have a chip on your shoulder due to Venezuela's demise and Colombia's recent success.

I bet you if I was to look for American, Italian or British criminals around the world I would find tonnes of inserts in different international media. But there's no need - I know what these countries are and I'm not going to let a bad few tarnish the good majority.

It's no secret Colombia has a drug past (and present, though minimised); that Medellin was the most murderous capital in the world but look at it now. For the first half of this year its registered the least amount of violent crime since the 80's and the trajectory is on a downward trend with current figures at less than half the levels in Newark, New Orleans, Detroit, Barquisimeto and more than 3 times less than Valencia & nearly 6 times less than Caracas.

Not to mention the drug issue is also a N.American and European responsibility because guess what? The consumers and local traffickers are overwhelmingly native to those countries. Yet somehow the onus is just on the Colombians?

You can throw as much hate as you want at Colombia but that's not going to derail the new forward thinking mentality the country is experiencing. Many Venezuelans have emigrated to Colombia and feel as proud and grateful of Colombia as Colombians do. The chip on your shoulder and hate speeches won't change that I'm afraid.

Chocó's is terrible. I believe there is a town considered the most humid place in the world. It's more like Puerto Rico, people are leaving in droves and relocating to other parts of the country.

I always say, at least Colombians are not stupid enough to elect people like Chavez and Maduro.

I cannot imagine living in a country where you can't find flour or toilet paper. Even Cuba is moving forward.

Chocó is the second rainiest place on earth and yes its humid but not unbearably so for those used to coastal climes. The people that live there have lived there for centuries and are used to it. What makes it nightmarish is the isolation, poverty, lack of infrastructure and opportunity. This is the main reason people are leaving to the cities in the Andes - for work and education.

Nuquí, Bahia Solano and Istmina in Chocó are actually pretty great because of their scenic beauty. I should know, I fell in love with Bahía Solano and bought a cabin there. The music from the region is also UNESCO world heritage.
