Because you probably never knew anyone who was involved with illegal activities.
I have known a lot of people that were involved in illegal activities, some went to jail but none got killed.
The Americas just got a lot more people with guns.

History has show it really has never worked that well when Europeans have a lot more guns.
Well, maybe I should have said that before 2010 I never knew anyone who have been murdered.
This one person in the past 5 years was the only one that I knew that was murdered.
We do have lots of murders here in Fortaleza, but in 95% of the cases, the murdered guy won't be missed by many people... Maybe by his mother.... Maybe...
And one relevant fact is that 2015 is set to become the first year in this decade when the number of murders in Fortaleza is going to be lower than in the previous year. Maybe we have reached the "peak", and most of the "bad guys" were already killed by the other bad guys, and we're starting to run out of bad guys to get killed by rivals.
I have to say MalaMan, this is truly and odd Sui Generis thread. My congratulations on staying alive.
Thanks!
I created this thread because I suddenly realized that I must be some survival king, taking in account all those statistics that you see around in the internet.
It is a little shocking to realize this, when you lived in a city for your whole life, and you never felt unsafe, and then you realize the statistics are saying you live in some "very dangerous" city.
Maybe living in Syria is safer than living here? Or living in South Sudan? Or in Donetsk in the middle of the Ukrainian civil war?
