Cool thread idea. I really like street food. It is fun and fast. When in Bogota I did not notice lots of food trucks except for on Pizza Food Truck that appeared to operate in the evening. I noticed empanadas, "ceviche, plantan chilps, these skinny churros, fresh potato chips. Lots of cut up fruit ( which was great) ex Mango, Watermelon, Chinetts ( I think it is called something else there... but that is what it is called in Trinidad), Bunuelos, coconut, I saw hot dogs of couple of times. This was in the Chandelier area and Santa Fe area. I did not really notice too much in Zona Rosa. I think it was because I was there during the week days and not during Friday or Saturday. In my opinion is many cities there are not street vendors on Friday and Saturday as more people are out later. I noticed the most in Santa Fe area because it was just a lot more busy and lots of people walking around.
In Cartagena I saw street vendors selling "ceviche" and coffee. Outside the walled city just a cross the street there is this place with a bunch of food stands that sells all kind of seafood. I did not eat there though. Also lots of people selling homemade sweets. Like the pcitures below ....
We make the similar sweets in Trinidad. No a fan as they soooooo sweet.
I think that girl who posted those pictures is from Toronto. She refers to tge empanadas sold in Kensington Market. They are not the same as the ones in Colombia. They are bigger and different dough/ crusts.
In Lima in Kenedy Park they sell churros with arequipe, arroz con leche, and even suspiro right on the street, and some kind of weird caramel popcorn nut thing that I haven't tried
Am I OCD or something, but does the idea of "street food" sound disgusting? Especially from a developing country.
IDK, not for nothing, but I feel like you're literally risking your gastrointestinal health so u can eat some street food? I wouldn't do that, especially if I'm traveling. I've heard of too many horror stories. I won't even eat street food from the US. Sure, I MAY be missing out on some decent food, but I'm also sure I won't be getting food poisoning or some bug from the street food, which let's be honest.... could be very questionable and potentially dirty or not prepared properly.
As in Cuba, they have a superb offer, pizzas, pastelitos finos, papas rellenas, arroz chino, tamales, sandwiches. Never had any problem eating street food.
Problem in Cuba are state-onwed restaurants, as the cold-chain in interrumpted constantly. I almost died with one with a state-owned pizza sold in some sort of foof trucks they have there.

No worries, you're cool. You're just leaving more for those of us who realize that you are in just as much danger of food poisoning from your fav restaurant. Its all in the prep, mate.
