I've been to Alaska a bunch of times. When I try to tell people about Anchorage, I can't quite find a city in the lower 48 that compares.

The bext example I have is, "It's kinda like Tucson, minus the heat".

Since I live in California, should I use Sacramento?

Never been to alaska but my parents lived there in the late 70s and said its empty but big and clean with a twilight sky and of course cold. Salt lake city or maybe albequerkye NM, or Mismark ND. Never been to any of those places.... Or maybe Denver because there has to be cold mountains in the background. Of those listed I'd have to guess Denver.

Albuquerque, New Mexico. The city is in a high above valley with mountains and large river.

Nothing like Salt Lake City, not even close. More like Missoula, Montana if anything. Salt Lake City is flat nasty and crowded.

Well, I have only been to the Western States but I think Anchorage is similar to Spokane, WA or maybe Billings, MT but both of those are in the western/dry parts of their states so the geography is all wrong.
