Well, I was a day late getting my studded tires. That snow on Friday night (actually it might have been the rain mix that did it) did me in. I was following too close(got complacent) and wasn't able to stop in time. I rear-ended a huge suburban with my little tin can. Boy did that trailer hitch f-up the front of my car. No one was hurt, except my driving record and car insurance premiums. I'm so embarrassed that I didn't drive better and I caused an accident my very first winter. My sweet husband said I'm being too hard on myself, but I feel like crap. Please tell me that accidents are part of living here...

Glad to hear you are OK. Yes unfortunately accidents go with the territory up here. My wife just got hit through no fault of her own by a car sliding through an intersection. Second time in less than a year. This place has some of the worst drivers you are ever likely to see anywhere!

That is why I paid $1,200.00 for Nokian studded. I figured $500.00 was about my deductible and it was easier to avoid an accident. It gets really slick.....stay well. =)

the important thing is that no one was hurt. it's a car and insurance. accidents happen, don't beat yourself up. I wouldn't want my husband to hear me say this, but yours is right, you should listen to him. You are being to hard on yourself. I have a huge old suburban with a hitch, and while it will drive through anything, it's tough to stop. Thing drives like a tank. As long as you are okay, that's all that matters!

Thanks bthorn31. My husband, who also posts on this site loved hearing you say he's right. I'm taking the bus for a while until I can feel more confident - and I prbably won't be getting my studded tires until the repairs are done.

Speaking of crazy drivers today, one lady just about ran my 17 year old off the road during a crazy bout of Road Rage for us being polite and not blocking a driveway, apparently the lady behind us was in a really big freaken' hurry to get to her coffee? She actually had the balls to get back on the road and follow us for about 3 miles through traffic all the while pulling up next to us and cussing us out. (my window was rolled up and I could not hear her, nor did I want to) I took her license plate # and will share with my cop friend.
After the psycho lady finally backed off, an elderly lady pulled out in front of us, narrowly missing my Daughter's Jeep. Amazing, my daughter handled it all very well and I was so proud of her for maintaining her cool.
I'm so thankful to be home now.

it's our secret - I will never ever admit that I said someone's husband was right. Mine might get the wrong idea

Don't worry about the studs. I have driven many many winters without them. Last winter was my first one in Anchorage, I drove a 20 yr old camry for a couple of months, then a Mazda something for a couple of months. I finished the winter with the suburban. no studs on any of them, and no troubles. Just got studs this past week for my jeep - trying to remember that it doesn't make me invincible.

Hang in there - you'll be fine!

Then I urge you to open that video again, look to your right, and open the third video down.

Enjoy, Mr. Moose.
