Hi everyone! I got here last Monday night (JBER) and have been trying to settle in, unpack and find my way around.... I am LOVING IT!!!

I want to thank everyone for their help and assistance... the drive up was good... and BEAUTIFUL once we got in BC.

We crossed at North Portal ND - and the agents tore the moving truck up for two hours... other than that, some rock hits, cracks in the windshields of both trucks, one of the rocks took out the power steering fluid cooler on the big truck, and a broken fan belt... we had a really good trip... I don't think we could have timed it any closer though... we were driving on some snow and ice for... probably the last 25% of the trip (of 3200 miles)....

Now I can proudly say... I survived the ALCAN.

Looking forward to learning my way around Anchorage, and maybe one day, helping some other new people out.

Cheers!

Default Good to hear you made it safe!

And that you had a good trip.

Congratulations on getting up here, and talk about timing. You go from the heat of Africa right into a winter wonderland in Anchorage!

Hope you get settled in okay, and I'm glad to hear you're already liking it. Watch the roads, they're a bit slick right now (especially when the snow turns to a wintery mix, but you probably already knew that considering the other places you've lived

Oh, and try Moose's tooth when you get a chance. Best Pizza in town, and they have gluten free options.

Thanks! I am looking forward to exploration!

Once I get my daughter out the door for her deployment and things settle down a bit, I will start venturing out more... I kind of have my hands (and heart) full at the moment.

Yes, Dan - much different than Africa... but the snow and ice driving came back to me after 14+ years in MN and Chicago. Looking forward to catching up with you and Patty sometime.

The drive was phenomenal.... we were pushing pretty hard, and didn't stop for many photo ops - Destruction Bay was awesome... so was Haines Junction.... we hit them just right, so the light coming off the snow on the mountains made them glow....

So glad I drove!

Really tired, early though... I think it is a combo of the stress of moving, the drive, not having a real break after my deployment and also - the late sunrise. Hopefully I will adjust soon.
